- About the Series
-
Singapore Chronicles: Opposition traces the eventful history of Singaporeās opposition parties from post-World War II days to the present.
In the 2015 General Election, which coincided with the 50th year of Singaporeās Independence, six seats went to the opposition. This formed just about 7 per cent of all elected seats, but still represented a remarkable achievement after the whittled-down opposition presence in Parliament from 1965 to 2011.
This book tells the story of these parties, which is one filled with personalities, setbacks and ideals. It also examines the opposition movementās challenges and prospects ā in particular, its potential growth trajectories and the shape of Singaporeās political system in the future.
