Quek Hong Shin is a freelance illustrator who has illustrated several picture books including The Marvellous Sugee Cake, The Amazing Sarong, The Incredible Basket, The Brilliant Oil Lamp, Inuka, Lollyâs Secret and the Ahoy, Navy! series for the Republic of Singapore Navyâs fiftieth anniversary. The Amazing Sarongâthe first book he wrote and illustratedâwas shortlisted for Best Childrenâs Title at the 2016 Singapore Book Awards, and the 2018 Hedwig Anuar Childrenâs Book Award. The Incredible Basket won the 2019 Singapore Book Awards for Best Childrenâs Picture Book. Hong Shin conducts workshops for primary-school children and is an advocate for Superhero Me, an inclusive arts movement for children with special needs. He promotes local culture to the young through his works and storytelling.
